Surveying Field Technician

SBM Geomatics Ltd. is seeking a Surveying Field Technician to join our growing Geomatics Division in our London office. Reporting to the OLS, the successful candidate will perform survey fieldwork including topographic, construction layout, site control, differential leveling, boundary retracement, as-built verification, quantity verification, and control networks. The ideal candidate will be hard working with a desire to expand and master their technical skillset in both field and office environment and will be committed to helping achieve our goal of expanding and winning work. This position will be primarily field based out of London, ON/surrounding area and will require travel, as necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take direction from Project Lead to understand the scope of work and critical data items to complete the survey correctly.
  • Use and maintain GNSS equipment, robotic total stations, data collectors, and a variety of levelling equipment.
  • Assist in collection of data using various survey instruments, and GPS field equipment.
  • Field work on site for boundary retracement, SRPRs, Reference Plans, Subdivisions, Condos as well as construction layout and topographic surveys.
  • Adhere to strict quality control practices and safety policies.
  • Daily download of data and prepare extensive field notes and sketches.
  • Field layout of stake points including pins, monuments, stakes, hub, and nails.
  • Communicate errors, problems, and questions to the Project Lead and OLS
  • Interpret a variety of plans, deeds, sketches, construction and architectural drawings and maps
  • Coordinate with and support office drafting department when required
  • Clearly correspond with the Project Lead and OLS to ensure smooth operations in the field and office
  • May be required to use personal vehicle (disbursements to be reimbursed)
  • Role will be approximately 90% field work and 10% office work

Skills / Qualifications
  • Ability to work in both independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, mathematical, and analytical skills
  • Ability to learn and implement problem-solving skills in areas such as survey boundary retracement under the direction of the OLS.
  • Ability to adhere to AOLS regulations, knowledge of field survey methods and calculations in the collecting boundary evidence in the field.
  • Eagerness to become familiar with industry standards and methods to approach required solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail and expertise in building client relationships.
  • Proficiency in all manner of professional land surveying.
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions in a physical manner for 8+ hours/day.
  • Ability to move approximately 50 lbs.

Mechanical Project Lead

Mechanical Draftsperson

SBM is currently seeking a Mechanical Draftsperson in our Kitchener office. The successful candidate will assist the Mechanical Engineering Department in drafting of buildings in the residential, commercial, institutional and industrial sectors. The candidate will be required to work with the mechanical design and engineering team in producing drawings for permit and construction. The candidate will be expected to work both independently and within the project group to facilitate the design requirements to reach project completion. The candidate will also be encouraged to take on special project tasks to help promote efficiencies of current design procedures and will have the opportunity to attend occasional site visits to provide practical feedback to complement completed design work.

Structural Engineer

Kitchener, Ontario
Under the supervision of the Structural Engineering Manager the Structural Engineer I will be responsible for assisting with structural design of residential and ICI (institutional-commercial-industrial) projects, site reviews of construction, and site investigations of existing structures. The Structural Eng I will also be responsible for supporting and guiding junior staff - Position: Structural Engineer I • Department: Structural Division • Reports To: Structural Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Structural design and evaluation of building components, including wood, concrete, steel, and masonry
  • Ensure construction plans and specifications meet guidelines and specifications of building codes and other regulations. Familiarity with Parts 4 and 9 of the Ontario Building Code is an asset.
  • Site investigation and evaluation of existing building structures and write field reports.
  • Review shop drawings
  • Preparation of drawings or drafting in AutoCAD as required

Intermediate Civil Engineer Designer/Drafter
